Dr. Arya Pretlow, DNP, CNM, IBCLC, C-IAYT

How may I be of service?

Nurses are trained to be good listeners and to support clients in meeting their health and wellness goals. Client advocacy is a central tenet of the nursing model of care. I employ Jean Watson's Philosophy of Science and Caring in my work. This philosophy (1) emphasizes a whole-person approach to care, (2) acknowledges the value of mind-body-spirit interconnectedness, and (3) considers the client's environment as it relates to their health and wellness. With this foundation in mind, I co-create treatment plans with my clients using an integrative approach - combining current evidence and treatment strategies with complementary tools such as mindfulness practices, breath work, body work, energy work, aromatherapy, herbs, and supplements.

My name is Arya Pretlow and I am an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse / Certified Nurse-Midwife licensed in Washington State. Services involving diagnosis and prescriptions can only be provided in person or via telehealth to clients in Washington.

Consulting services (Lactation Consulting, Yoga Therapy, Nurse Coaching, and Nurse Consulting) are available via telehealth on a fee-for-service basis, regardless of your location.

Certified Nurse-Midwife Services & Lactation Consulting (WA residents)

As a CNM, my scope includes anyone with a uterus or who identifies as female, from the start of menstruation (or adolescence for transwomen). I am licensed in Washington State and see clients at Rainier Valley Community Clinic. Whether you're looking for a primary care provider*, midwifery services, fertility support, or gynecologic care, my approach is trauma-informed, inclusive, and client-centered. Telehealth is available.

As an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), I am pleased to support all families in infant feeding. Prenatal body-feeding consultations are available, as well as support throughout your lactation journey. Because I am also a CNM, I can diagnose and treat a variety of lactation-related conditions, including thrush, mastitis, and recurrent plugged ducts.

Washington residents, please link through to RVCC to make an appointment for CNM or IBCLC appointments.

* I feel strongly that primary care providers should function as first-line support for mental health disorders. I have post-graduate education in psychiatric mental health advanced practice nursing, with a particular focus on perinatal mental health. This means that I am prepared to provide care for grief and mild trauma, depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, and acute sleep disorders. I refer out for complicated mental health disorders and specific therapy modalities such as EMDR, CBT, etc.

Lactation Consulting (outside of WA State)

As an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), I am pleased to support all families in infant feeding. Prenatal body-feeding consultations are available, as well as lactation education, and practical support throughout your lactation journey. These appointments are provided via telehealth.

Fee Schedule:

Prenatal consultation (60 minutes): $175

Lactation education, (120 minutes): $300

Check-ins / trouble-shooting: $85/30 minutes

What to expect:

The purpose of the prenatal consultation is to help you in your decision-making process about infant feeding. Whether you're undecided or sure you want to body-feed, this appointment focuses on your personal indicators, including health history*, to identify - and address - potential challenges on your body-feeding journey. We'll also address knowledge gaps so that you can feel more empowered in your process!

* This includes the option of a visual breast assesssment.

Lactation education is a 2-hour class for you and up to one other person of your choice. We'll cover mammary physiology, how milk is made, milk production expectations, prevention and treatment of nipple injury and mastitis, position techniques, and address any concerns that you have. For scheduling convenience, the class can be broken into two one-hour sessions.

Check-ins / trouble-shooting appointments are an a la carte option for those times when you need professional guidance because the internet is a quaqmire of questionable advice.

Yoga Therapy / Private Yoga Instruction

Yoga is, in a nutshell, the science of healthy living. It is a subtle art and science based on 8 "limbs": applied ethics (yama), self-discipline (niyama), postures (asana), breathwork (pranayama), mindfulness (pratyahara), concentration (dharana), contemplation (dhyana), and bliss/unity (samadhi). Each limb leads to the next, promoting health and wholeness for the practitioner and creating a ripple effect of positive change.

In yoga therapy, I work with clients to set goals and co-create an individualized practice to help them meet those goals while also learning to live with a sense of balance, peace, and joy. We use the 8 limbs of yoga, attend to the needs of the 5 koshas, and work to balance the doshas with principles that center movement, nutrition, connection, and joy as foundations of health.

Since I started teaching yoga in 2002, I have worked with students from all walks of life, in a wide range of environments, and with a variety of reasons to practice yoga. Advanced training in anatomy and physiology, communication, and clinical skills (through the course of my nursing education) makes me particulalry adept at individualizing the practice for your needs. I have specialized training in prenatal and postpartum yoga, but gladly work with all people at any stage of life. Please note that while my nursing credentials and training inform my assessments and interactions, yoga sessions cannot be treated as a "healthcare problem visit"; I will not diagnose nor prescribe medication in a yoga session.

Fee Schedule:

60 minute sessions: $150

Package of five 60-minute sessions: $675

For the package option, please note that the five sessions must be used within 5 months.

Consulting:

I often receive requests for health advice. Few of us feel that we get enough time with our healthcare providers to address all of our questions and concerns. As a Nurse Practitioner, I place strong emphasis on patient education, and I want to offer this to you! My areas of expertise are puberty, periods, fertility, perimenopause, lactation, perinatal care, and general women's health. As a Nurse Consultant I do not diagnose or prescribe, but I do support you with evidence-based guidance and personalized education to help you work toward deeper understanding of whatever health questions you have.

Let me help you fill the knowledge gap!
